9.29.10

Me, Grant, Monet, Larry and Becky went to the cabin last weekend. There is no other place I would rather be on a fall day. The weather was warm and gorgeous, the leaves were unbelievable. I love, love, love being up there. Larry will tell you a softer side of this story, but everyone who knows the Wolf knows he is famous for UNDER exaggerating, and so I, Hayley will tell the truth.
...
When we got there we immediately saw that the tire in the truck was completely flat, however we decided to forget that for the time being and go on a 4 wheel ride.
It started out casual, but don't expect Larry (or Becky for that matter) to let you know what they are really getting you into. This ride was scary. It got very steep and very rocky. There was one point that my parents had Monet on their 4 wheeler, and if she would have been on ours I would have turned around. I was born with a little of Joannes nervousness, I can't help it.
Well we finally made it to the bottom of the canyon to the river bed. And to quote my dad, we were the furthest away from the cabin that we could be.
...
So after a small rest we headed up that big, steep mountain you see in the background of this photo. So we are climbing and climbing, with a drop off to the left and all of the sudden my parents 4 wheeler dies. Completely dies. My mom and I jump off with Monet and hike up to wait. The boys can't get it started, so they abandon it by the river, and drive up to get us. Grant and I walked up the rest of the hill... which with hardly any water and a hot afternoon sun, I was tired.

So our only hope now was Magna (my dads 4 wheeler.) All five of us rode that thing well over an hour all the way back to the cabin. Thank heavens it lasted with all of us. Otherwise it would have been a long, nasty walk back.
Quality family bonding time. Monet was so tired after three hours she almost fell asleep on Grants shoulder while we bounced along.
We got off and walked through the water.

Once we got home we were all dusty and tired. Monet got washed up and snuggled in her pjs.
We had steaks and a fire. Grant and Larry changed the tire successfully.
Monet was sunburned, windburned and exhausted but she was a little trooper.
That night Voo and Andy came up for the "Rescue Andy's 4 Wheeler" mission. Early the next morning the 4 guys plus spike headed back to the abandoned machine.
Even Andy couldn't fix it. I was shocked and lost a bet over this. So they tied it to another 4 wheeler and pushed and pulled it up the mountain and off the trail where they loaded it into Voos truck.
In the meantime, Voo and Spike tipped on his 4 wheeler, Voo and Spiked jumped off just in time, while the 4 wheeler tumbled down the mountain side. Luckily it stopped because one more rotation and it would have been a goner.
Thankfully all 4 boys and all three wheelers made it home.
What an adventure.

Monet never got to use the Buzz LightYear fishing pole that my dad bought her, but we always have next year.
